 Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI):

At the beginning of the 1980´s the Turkish Air Force looked  for a successor for the outdated F-104 Starfighter. When the General Dynamics F-16C/D Fighting Falcon was chosen as the future fighter-bomber aircraft in 1983, it was decided that the aircraft should be manufactured under license in Turkey. As a result, TAI was founded on 15.05.1984, which has 51% Turkish and 49% American shareholders. The production plants were built on a surface of 100.000 m² at Akinci near Ankara. With over 2000 employees, TAI is still active in the aircraft production even after the end of the F-16 program.

TAI has also built 34 F-16C and 12 F-16D a/c for the Egyptian Air Force under the Peace Vector IV program. The airplanes were produced during the period November 1993-May 1995 and are based at present in the area of Cairo.
